James J. Hill Mansion – A Tour

I spent the day yesterday with Mom and together we toured the great James J. Hill Mansion in St. Paul.  What can I say; the mansion was not only beautiful and masculine with all its elaborately carved oak and mahogany woodwork, it also held so much history, you walked inside in awe.  The Mansion was completed in 1891 and was

Pet Portrait Painting

Seems people come to me at a time when they lose their pets due to illness or an accident, than any other time, to paint a portrait of their pet.  Unfortunately,  many realize they just never took many pictures of their pet while it was alive, so trying to come up with any photo is difficult for one thing, and

Tutorial – How I do Eyes (Using Photoshop)

I will take this dog photo and use it for this tutorial so I can show you how I can turn lifeless eyes into something that’s more…well,  alive!  I use the same technique on people’s eyes basically. Below is the original photo.  As you can see, it is difficult to see where the dogs pupil ends and where the iris

Lunch Date With Gene and Mary

We finally made the time to get together with my Dad and Mary.  Actually, he’s my stepfather.  He’s the man who raised me from the age of 7 until I graduated from High School.  We met for lunch at a nice half way point between Minneapolis and our home, which landed us in Buffalo – at Applebee’s.  This seems to

Morning Drive

I love my morning drives when I head to work.  I always admire the sunrises across the lake, and many times will stop and take a picture.  Each and every sunrise is unique and so beautiful to me.  Like the Fall, they are much too short-lived. Here is yesterday’s sunrise.                                                                                                               Here is this mornings sunrise … taken not over the

This entry came a few days later than I had planned or hoped.  But you will see why as you continue reading on here. We decided of course, to take the ‘scenic route’ down 61.  It’s a beautiful drive along Lake Superiors North Shore, and the many rivers and streams along the way makes this an even more special place

Fall Colors In Cloquet

We’ve decided to head up North for a couple of days, with the hopes to enjoy the Fall colors.  Unfortunately, the state suffered extremely high winds today; winds as high as 45-60 mph in places.  I’m SO hoping that it didn’t blow too many of the leaves off the trees.  I want the Fall season to last as long as

I’m Taking Another Plunge!

It was just the other day, when my agent asked me the name of our local paper.  I told him “The Annandale Advocate”.  At the time I didn’t know why he was asking, but then suddenly I knew.  He said it was time we took this photo painting to the next level.  He told me I was going to

Favorite Time of Year

Fall is my favorite time of year.  It’s too bad it has to be our shortest season here in Minnesota.  But once it arrives, you will often find me outside with nature, taking pictures and playing in the leaves, and just breathing in all that fresh Fall air. This past weekend, I went to my favorite garden in the area.
